In the short time since we received a Prevention and Diversion Grant, Family Promise of Greater Johnson City has helped 12 families stay in their homes.

This grant allows us to assist families going through medical emergencies or isolated hardships by providing rent and utility payments. The primary purpose of the grant is to keep families in their homes. It is increasingly challenging to find affordable housing in this area. If a family is evicted, those challenges grow exponentially.

Just yesterday, a family of four- a mom and dad with two children- came to Family Promise needing shelter. They had found a new rental they were about to move into, and it suddenly fell through, leaving the family with nowhere else to go. With the aid of this grant, we will provide a two-week stay at a local hotel while they find their footing. The grant allows us to deter their occurrence of crisis and shelter them.

Often, families will come upon a hardship that is seemingly impossible to get past. Grants such as the Prevention and Diversion allow these families to catch their breath and move forward.
