Moving Families

On June 1st, one of the families in the shelter program moved into their own home.

It is such a sweet experience for the families when they take this next step. A lot of the time when families come to Family Promise, they have nothing but one another. They have no money, no roof over their head, and they are in crisis- they feel as if they have no control.

By providing shelter to the unhoused families, they are able to stabilize their environment, calm down and then address the many changes they are facing. Stabilization is key to establishing confidence and security within these families.

When a family successfully completes the program, they move out of the shelter and into their very own place. We help them address issues such as trauma and addiction; however, the primary focus is helping them find a place they can call home. The family that just moved into their own space now has the freedom to feel security. They have their own living area, bedrooms, and kitchen. They will no longer have to go day to day thinking about where they will rest their head at night.

After a family has successfully found a new home, they are provided with the things that they need to outfit their homes. Donations are collected from our thrift store to supply items such as linens, dishes, silverware, cleaning supplies, and toiletries to help kick start this journey.

At the end of the day, Family Promise strives to be a safe place that allows families to stabilize and confidently face life and its challenges. Hopefully, each family that walks out of the shelter’s doors feels this way.

In the weeks ahead, we will be focusing on the unhoused families in the shelter program and the many challenges they area faced with.
