Yesterday was one of those days when everything worked out.
We received a call yesterday morning from a single mother who is seven months pregnant with a toddler and will raise them both on her own once the baby is born. She was calling to see if we had any couch or bed that we could bring by for her. Luckily, we had a futon and a few chairs from when one of our families moved a few days ago and did not want them.
We got in the box truck and drove to this woman and her child. When we arrived, she had nothing to sit on in the living room, only scattered toys for her boy and a side table with a lone DVD player.
She looked once at the futon and the chairs as they were set up and became emotional. She started to tell us how she could no longer get up the stairs in her condition. She had been sleeping on a cold, tile floor for the last few weeks.
After noticing the lack of furniture in the living room and seeing the DVD player by itself, we decided to go back to Family Promise and grab a television that we had, along with a lamp and another chair. When we brought these items back and hooked up the tv to the DVD, she again became emotional watching her son react to the cartoons that came on.
She looked at us and said, “No matter how late or how early, God always has a plan.”
This family can now rest knowing they do not have to try and climb the stairs or sleep on cold tile flooring. We did not need the futon immediately and planned to give it away when the right time came. Today was the right time.
