About IHN

Homelessness Statistics

  • Families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.
  • 41% of the homeless population is comprised of families with children.
  • In recent years, the Johnson City Public Schools have served more than 500 homeless children each academic year.
  • There is an average of 20 homeless families each day in Johnson City (nearly 200 families each year).

Family Promise

  • Started in 1986 in Summit, NJ.
  • As of October 2012 there were over 170 Family Promise affiliates in 41 states and Washington D.C.

Services Provided by IHN

  • IHN of Greater Johnson City provides shelter, food and case management services to 25 to 35 guest families each year.
  • At the IHN Day Center, families shower, do laundry, and work with IHN staff members on individualized goals.
  • Guest families are connected to a variety of community resources and services to assist them in addressing issues such as: employment, housing, counseling, education, skills training, health and nutrition.
