5th Annual Chasing Snakes Event
Another Big Success!
This year the race was the day before St. Patrick’s Day and the weather was great. We welcomed 618 participants for the 10K Road Race and 4K Fitness Walk & Fun Run combined, with the 4K seeing an increase from last year! Sponsored by St. John’s Episcopal Church, the awards for the competitive 10K event were once again handcrafted by Philip Shivell, a local potter (shyvalley.com). Brinson Milhorn was the overall winner, and 13-year-old Maci Shell was the overall winner in the women’s category. At press time, the net amount raised for IHN was not yet available.
The night before the race, guests enjoyed wonderful Celtic music from members of the ETSU Celtic Band, hosted by St. John’s, and an Irish meal served by the Youth of St. John’s. Collart Chiropractic was also on hand before and after the race to provide support for participants.
As always, this event could not have been possible without the more than 150 volunteers representing 21 church communities, or our wonderful sponsors. Southeastern Retina Associates once again sponsored our start line and Anesthesia & Pain Consultants were our returning sponsors for the finish line. Summers-Taylor, our course sponsor, provided all the street coning and electronic arrow boards for traffic control to keep our runners and walkers safe. Pot O’Gold sponsors this year were Earth Fare, Harold Dishner State Farm Insurance Agency, and Fresh Market.
